In fact, we’re all history. The stories of our individual lives, along with all the stories of people in groups, are what history is made of.

You will be creating a website or a PowerPoint presentation about yourself -- an autobiography -- that shows how you are personally connected to history and the world around you.

But how am I connected to history?

Everything about you is connected somehow to history or to the culture of our times, or to the times of the past. For example:

Here are the steps involved. Each item in this list is a link; click it to see what's involved in each step and to get the assignment that will show you how to get it done.

An autobiography is the story of your own life.

Assignment #2: Write a short paragraph – one or two sentences may be enough – about each part of your “web”. Put the paragraphs in an order that makes sense to you.

Think of yourself as a visual medium.

Assignment #3: If you were a website (or a PowerPoint presentation), what would you look like?

  1. What colors would you be?
  2. What kind of font would you want to be written in?
  3. You’ll need to have pictures. Do you want lots of pictures of yourself, your friends and family, or would you rather use pictures of places and things that you can get from the Internet?
  4. Would you be moving around? (Will there be animated objects?)
  5. Describe your website/presentation in any other visual ways you can think of.

Connect yourself.

Assignment #4: Look through what you’ve written so far – those paragraphs that you put in order – and underline everything that could possibly be a link.

Be prepared.

Assignment #5: On your flash drive or in your my Documents, create a folder called im_name. using your own last name in place of name. For example, if your name is Bob Smith, create a folder called im_smith. Inside that folder, create another folder called graphics.

Website note: If your project is a website, your first page must be called index. That and your other pages will be in the im_name folder. All of your images will be in the graphics folder.

PowerPoint note: If your project is a PowerPoint presentation, your finished project will be saved as a slideshow (a .pps file) and will be in the im_name folder. You’ll save all your pictures into the graphics folder.

Take pictures.

Assignment #6: Start collecting and saving your images. Remember, you need a minimum of 12 to 15.

Write your rough draft.

Assignment #7: This rough draft is your assignment. Remember, if you need help at any time, or just want someone to review your project in the rough draft stage, ask!

Almost done!
